The Importance of Setting Goals

Surely now’s as good time a time as ever to plan what you want to achieve in the 8 week run up to Christmas.

Goal Setting has played a huge role in LYB trainer Gabzy’s over the last few years – from her very first group session at University to her Sunday night life planning. Using the tool on a daily basis really helps to ensure she’s achieving everything she wants to, or doing everything to take the steps in the right direction.

A weekend well spent brings a week of content!”

By setting a goal you’re not just saying that you want to achieve something but allows you to really think about the exact details of the goal;

  • Setting a Timescale –  allows you to identify when you want to achieve the goal by. By doing so you are able to set your focus, and keep your motivation. This allows you to avoid procrastination as you reflect on how close you are to achieving your goal and reflect and review to ensure you’re on track to meet your goal deadline.
  • Measurable Progress – by having a set goal in mind you can easily see how far you have come from where you began. Even if your goal is to run a half marathon and you manage to run for 20 minutes for the first time ever – THAT. IS. PROGRESS. against your goal. Nothing helps to keep you more motivated than to see how far you’ve come.
  • Support – by knowing exactly what you want to achieve, it makes it easier to communicate to others. Having peers onboard with what your goals are helps you to seek the relative advice, and ask for support when it may seem impossible to achieve.

TOP TIPS FOR WEEKLY MOTIVATION

This week why not try setting weekly intentions of what you intend on achieving. Finishing a week feeling as though you’ve done what you wanted to do and achieving a new goal you will continue to feel as though you’re making progress to be the best version you can of yourself.

Pick between 4 and 6 categories that are important to you, and use them as your weekly guidelines for planning out what you want to.

For Example Gabzy’s Intentions for this week are;

Training – 4 Weight Sessions with 1 HIIT and a Jog

Learning – Keep on top of lecture notes and do chemistry mind maps

Fun/Social – Spend time with family

Life Admin – Wash my Car and Organise Wardrobe

Work Admin – Plan next weeks diary to optimise sessions

Future – Plan out 12 week challenge to meet medium term goals
